Wound Care/Hyperbarics

FMC Campus specializes in the care and treatment of acute, chronic or non-healing wounds. Our Wound Healing Institute is staffed with a team of physicians, surgeons, nurses, dieticians and patient educators and utilizes a wide variety of medical techniques to promote successful healing and improve our patients’ quality of life.

Most wounds normally heal within four to six weeks, but sometimes other issues disrupt or interfere with the healing process, resulting in a chronic wound. Chronic wounds can be caused by a variety of factors, but the most common causes are complications from diabetes, poor circulation, infection, repeated trauma and a weak immune system.

No matter what the cause of your wound, we will carefully assess your medical condition and health history before recommending any treatment. Your care will be tailored to your individual needs and may include an array of different treatment options, including:

  • Education: Educating our patients and their families or caregivers can ensure proper wound care to prevent reoccurence.
  • Medication: Many wounds can be treated successfully with topical medications.
  • Special services: Ancillary services are also available, including nutritional and diabetic counseling by a licensed dietician, diabetes education and physical therapy.
  • Surgery: In some cases, vascular surgery may be necessary to restore healthy circulation. Other surgical treatments include orthopedic, podiatric, plastic and general surgery.
  • Wound cleansing: Patients are taught how to cleanse their wounds properly, which helps promote healing.

FMC Campus is pleased to offer an advanced wound healing technique: hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Using advanced equipment to create a specially pressurized chamber containing 100% oxygen, our hyperbaric therapy promotes healing by increasing the amount of oxygen in the bloodstream. This improves circulation and delivers more oxygen to the damaged tissue, which helps promote healing and reduce the risk of infection.
